FACT: a recent survey by Pawzy showed that 100% of Atlantic Canadian pet owners consider them family members!

A recent study by Narrative Research showed that two thirds of Nova Scotians have a pet cat and 38 per cent of Nova Scotians have a dog while 11 per cent of the population have both a cat and a dog.
“No pets” rental policies restrict the options available to Nova Scotians at a time of a housing shortage. Families and individuals are facing the trauma of surrendering a pet to find housing or to keep their current place of residence. Some sleazy landlords are using “no pets” policies to force tenants out so they can skirt the rental cap and raise the rent for the next tenant!

Local animal welfare organizations are being approached daily by people surrendering their pets due to the threat of potential homelessness. Some are choosing to live on the street rather than part with a beloved family member
According to Animal Justice, “Ontario’s Residential Tenancies Act does not permit landlords to include “no pet” clauses in rental agreements.” If Ontario can do it there’s no reason why Nova Scotia can’t do it!
